The basis for this film "Metropolitan Andrei" is the life and work of a renowned historical figure and church leader, Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Andrei Sheptycky (1865-1944).

Descended from an old noble family, which included well known religious and military leaders, diplomats and politicians, he chose tо serve God and his people.

Throughout his life, replete with years of blood and turmoil, through severe persecution and the repression of political regimes from czarist rule to Stalin and Hitler, he bore a painful burden "for the people, of whom I am a part, who need my help."    

At times of greatest trials, Metropolitan Andrei was a priest and shepherd, a diplomat, philosopher, moving publicist, defender of a national concept and culture.
