Film festivals

Little by little Ukrainian films appears at the prestige European film festivals and won prizes. In 2001 "Tyr" of Taras Tomenko won at the Panoram of the International Berlin film festival. In 2003 in the main competition of Berlinale Ukrainian animator Stepan Koval won Silver Bear for his film "Yshov tramvay №9" ("The Tram №9 Was Going"). In 2003 film "Mamay" by Oles' Sanin represented Ukraine for the first time at the Oskar. In 2005 year young Ukrainian director Ihor Strembitskiy won  Gold Palm Prize for his film "Podorozhni" ("Wayfarers").

This year first time Ukrainian feature film took part in the main competition of Rotterdam international film festival for the grand prize. Here on the 25th of January 2008 took place the first night  of  debute film of Ihor Podolchak "Las Meninas" . That isn't the first Ukrainian film presented in Rotterdam. Few years earlier there was screened film "At the river" of Eva Neymann in the information program. This tape was shown also at the London film festival  in 2007 and became first Ukrainian film in it's history.

In Ukraine there are also international festivals. There are "Molodist"  - festival of fiction films, "Contact" - festival of documentaries and animation festival "Krok". Besides there are Irpen film festival (international noncommercial festival of alternative cinematograph), "Stozhary" (festival of actors art), film festival in Yalta (common project of Russia and Ukraine).
